According to the Bible, we have no need to fear evil spirits when we believe in Jesus. It is Jesus Who has the real power. Animists coming to Christ have described that they have lost the immense fear they used to have of evil spirits. In movements like the Faith movement, this process is being reversed, with the result that Christians begin to fear evil spirits.
The devil may be allowed by God to tempt us, in order to test our love for God. But the real threat is not the devil, but our own lust for power. It is our own sin that puts us in a position where we can be led astray (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12).
As soon as we turn around and repent, God accept us. Jesus said that the prodigal son “arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20) Jesus also said: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20).
When we come to Jesus, He will take care of the evil spirits. It is He Who has all power (Matthew 28:18). If we keep close to Him, we have nothing to fear from evil powers. “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39). Life will still contain battle and suffering in varying amounts for different people, but the final deliverance for all believers is guaranteed in the life to come (I Peter 1:3-5).
