The Crucial Question: God or Some Other Power?

According to Hagin’s doctrine of the atonement, man is put on the same level as Jesus Himself. The natural consequence of this is that, seeing Jesus has authority to command the angels, we can do it too. If there is no difference between us and Jesus, then it is quite unnecessary to pray to Him. It follows that anything He can do for us, we might as well do for ourselves. Furthermore, when Hagin’s Jesus says that he cannot do anything because he has delegated the power to us, then it becomes totally meaningless to ask Jesus for help.

Many people who are under the influence of these teachings have been kept from seeing the logical consequences, and when the doctrine fails to work, they change the doctrines for themselves. However, others have taken it very seriously indeed, and some of them have got into great spiritual darkness, standing alone attempting to fight the devil. They have understood very well that the consequence of Hagin’s message is that Jesus cannot help them, and therefore, they have to trust in themselves and the power they have in the new creation.

The important issue is whether it was really Jesus Christ that appeared to Hagin or whether it was another Jesus. If his assumption that it had to be God Who worked is correct, then other consequences would inevitably have to follow. First and foremost, if it was the power of God that was working so mightily in Hagin’s life, then the doctrine would have to be Biblical, and the fruit would have to be good. The fact that these formulas sometimes appear to work does not make them Biblical – magic works too!

The fact that Hagin asserts so definitely that it is Jesus who has given him this particular teaching compels us to reach a definite conclusion. If he had simply said that it was a matter of his personal interpretation of certain Scriptures, it would not have been nearly as serious. But, he maintains, dogmatically, that he has received the message word for word directly from Jesus Himself.

Having compared Hagin’s messages with the Bible, it has become very clear to me that it is not Jesus Christ Who appeared to him, but it is another Jesus that delivers another message and another Gospel, rather than the Gospel of grace through faith in Jesus.
