Bible Truth Mixed with Another Gospel

In theory, movements like the Faith movement proclaim that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, but intermingled with Biblical truths there is another gospel about another Jesus than the Jesus of the Bible. Human spiritual achievements and techniques are added to faith, thereby denying the grace of God. The methods that are recommended have been influenced by the mind power cults, and they are more akin to some occult techniques of the New Age rather than to Biblical Christianity.

The Jesus of the Faith teachings is presented merely as a man who has been born again, just like we are born again when we become Christians, and he does not really have all power in heaven and earth. Having delegated his authority to us, he has practically rendered himself powerless.

Such a Jesus is an onlooker in a system of spiritual laws, where spoken words in themselves have more power than he does; and if we do not make use of certain techniques in order to manipulate those spiritual laws, he cannot help us. In short, he is another Jesus than Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who is described in the Bible.

This is nothing less than another gospel where there is another spirit that leads people away from the real Jesus Christ of the Bible to another Jesus. And they are led away by special manifestations, and by feelings and experiences that are commonly referred to as the anointing. Falling to the floor involuntarily is a common entry-point into this misleading spiritual dimension. Experiences of this anointing may progress to spiritual drunkenness, out-of-the-body experiences or visits to false heavens. False prophecies and words of knowledge, some of which are undoubtedly supernatural, all work together to entangle individuals in a mishmash of false spirituality.

Then, besides the theology and spirit of the movement, there is the mind control. The practice of mind control in some parts of the movement is very powerful. I think the mind control alone can account for a lot of the adverse effects on people, and this should not be underestimated. Regarding this practice of mind control, it is no better or worse than that found in Scientology, the Moonies or Hare Krishna.
