Chapter Eight

The Extra Biblical Revelations of Hagin

In the following I want to point out some of the strange elements in the teachings of Kenneth E. Hagin. I will not attempt to give a complete picture of all he says, but simply point out some of the more bizarre and disturbing aspects, from a Biblical point of view.

Individual preachers have developed their own particular brands of Faith teaching, and sometimes a part of one person’s teaching may seem to be contradicted by that of another’s. An additional cause of apparent contradictions may be that the preachers have a general tendency to avoid giving a clear exposition of certain doctrinal questions. Some teachers may answer “No! We are not gods!” when replying to questions in an interview — only to state on another occasion that “we are gods!”

Hagin himself has a rather relaxed style of preaching that includes a lot of humour. He believes that the Bible is the Word of God and that we can trust it. Furthermore, he points out that God is active today. But there are several aspects of his teaching that are highly problematic for a Christian who takes the Bible as the standard for his faith — because Hagin’s teaching is clearly un-Biblical in several vital areas.

Hagin tells about how he, together with Jesus, ‘walked down to hell.’ He says that in heaven, he was ‘standing together with Jesus, about six to eight yards from the throne.’ 60

The doctrine Hagin received when he met the person he believed to be Jesus is being spread within the Faith movement as a revelation from God. It is never questioned whether it was really the Jesus of the Bible who appeared to him.
