The Bible and Speaking in Tongues to God!

In Paul’s First Epistle to the Corinthians, 14:2, it says that he who speaks in tongues speaks to God. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that we should speak in tongues to the devil. If you use hours to speak in tongues to the devil — which is something I have taken part in — then it is not really strange that you can end up becoming psychotic, or that “the engine” can start up on its own accord.

Johanna Michaelsen wrote in her book “The Beautiful Side of Evil”, that she has heard people who were demon-possessed, and people in spiritistic meetings, speak in tongues. She writes that a person who has an occult ability to speak in tongues can transfer this to others by laying on of hands. She warns against seeking the gift of tongues in an uncritical way, especially by using techniques that have any connection with ecstatic trances or hypnosis.

Speaking in tongues is a gift which the Holy Spirit can give to those who believe in Jesus. If you receive this gift, it is intended to be used in order to thank and exalt God. It is an abuse to use speaking in tongues to isolate oneself from other people or to direct it against the devil. If you begin to force speaking in tongues and use it in order to achieve, it is easy to go astray and get a kind of speaking in tongues that is not from God.
